Marketing Time – How much of it?

So how much time do you really have to invest in your business marketing efforts, 30 min per month, 30 min per week or 30 min per day? Well no one can really answer that one for you and your business. You’re the only one that knows how easy it is going to be to get customers coming through your front door. With marketing you need to be excited and fired up, you don’t need to spend huge amounts of time doing it so that you feel you adequately spend time doing it. You must realize that quality time is needed to work out a marketing campaign. Quantity is not always the way to do it. The time that you spend to work out a marketing campaign must bring out new ideas and on a regular basis and only you will know how regular this should happen. I have found that in order to spend or devote quality time towards your marketing you need to get away from the normal hustle and bustle around you. It is very difficult to come up with good ideas and new marketing methods with a thousand and one things happing all around you and everybody competing for your attention. I know it is difficult to get away from it all; everybody needs you to make decisions minute by minute. So this is what you do, take an hour or two where there are no interruptions and work on some strategies, then you go back to the office and go and implement those strategies and then you can get your staff involved as well. See if they think that it will work. Get them to think outside the box. Remember you are a business owner now; you don’t do marketing because you have to do it and you do it because without marketing your business doesn’t exist. So get used to it, learn to enjoy it and learn to love it just the way you love to have your own business. So the bottom line is, be disciplined and set aside a realistic amount of time towards doing marketing and do this on a regular basis. Remember quality not quantity. Do it and love it or get out!

As an old farm boy, I look at marketing like planting the garden every spring. If you don't do it with a plan,you'll probably get a poor harvest.

Thanks for the comment Frederick. Planning is everything. Cliche: If you don't plan you plan to loose.
It definitely helps to turn off the computer and make a list of priorities and goals, using antique implements such as paper and pen.
